Designed as the ultimate all-purpose work boot, the Danner 8" Rain Forest is a versatile, adaptable boot built with a waterproof full-grain leather upper for maximum foot protection. The Vibram 132 Montagna outsole maintains traction on slippery, uneven surfaces and offers superior workplace safety in any situation. The angled lug pattern increases surface contact and promotes grip when conditions grow rough. There is a waterproof GORE-TEX liner that prevents moisture from entering the interior, while wicking sweat away from the foot. A fiberglass shank ensures torsional rigidity and critical arch support, required for any intense labor field. Triple-stitched for durability and featuring Danner's stitchdown construction for re-craftability, this boot will not let you down.

On the plus side: excellent build quality, great materials. The cons: 1. poor material choice (the leather, although excellent, is soft, supple and thin - very appropriate for a dress shoe, not a work boot. The leather is extremely susceptible to scuffs, cuts and abrasions). 2. Because of the soft leather, there is weak ankle support. 3. The sole itself (not the insert) is composed of three layers and has a thick, hard plastic layer which I think is for the electrocution safety certification. The boots were extremely uncomfortable on my feet, back and knees and most worrisome, started irritating my planer tendon on the heel after 1 1/2 days of wearing around the house. (I have never had problems with that before). I was told by Danner on the phone that these boots were identical to the Acadia - they are not. If you look closely at the pictures on the manufacturer website, you can see the leather is thicker and the sole has a thick layer of foam on the Acadia compared to these. In conclusion, I loved the look and workmanship and wanted to love these boots, but they are not functional and most troubling have poor ankle support and are bad for your feet/body especially when used as I intended for hunting/hiking over rough terrain with heavy packs. I am going back to Acadia even though I prefer tan and brown colors.
As far as fitment, I have a narrow to normal width foot and I ordered a half size up. They fit fine with one pair of thin socks and insole, snug but comfortable with insole and one pair of thick, wool socks but too tight with two pair of thick socks and insole (removing the insole makes it snug but tolerable again). They can be stretched from what I have read from others, but I will try ordering a wide this time to try and make these a 3-4 season boot. The site was great in handling my returns. Will buy from them in the future.
